Food Freshness and Flavor Monitoring
Lonestar is an easy to use and powerful analyzer for food production and food safety compliance. The instrument can monitor freshness, flavors, taints or contamination in food and beverages. It detects aromas, essences, and odor chemicals with high accuracy and sensitivity. Process monitoring with Lonestar can complement an HACCP or ISO 22000 approach to ensuring food safety and quality.
Contaminant Monitoring
Lonestar can be used for the rapid characterization of mal-odors and taints in a variety of foodstuffs, beverages and consumer goods.
Detecting Sulfites and SO2
The Lonestar portable analyzer is able to detect whether Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCMs), herbal remedies, and alternative medicine products contain sulphites by detecting the presence of trace amounts of sulfur dioxide (SO2). Sulfite sensitivity affects many people making the presence of sulfites in herbal medicines a common concern for consumers.
Potato Rot Analysis
Maintaining the quality and health of stored potatoes is vital for growers, processors and consumers, but each year there are consistent and substantial losses due to storage diseases. The Lonestar portable freshness monitor can detect volatile chemical signatures associated with bacterial diseases such as blackleg and potato soft rot in real time. This allows the early detection and isolation of rotten potato stock, helping to prevent further losses.
Quality Control of Spices
The Lonestar gas analyzer can be used to rapidly identify and measure the volatile essential oil content of spices such as cinnamon, cumin, ginger and cloves. With sampling taking less than two minutes, Lonestar offers a fast alternative to time consuming distillation methods for quality control.
Adulterants in Milk
Lonestar is an easy to use and powerful analyzer for accurate, real-time identification and monitoring of trace flavor contamination in milk including 2,4-dichlorophenol (DCP), 2,4-dibromophenol (DBP), and the biogenic amines such as triethylamine (TEA), milk adulterant benzoic acid, and the milk age marker, lactic acid.
Diacetyl in Beer Detection
The flavor of beer is strongly influenced by the presence of diacetyl and 2,3-pentanedione. Owlstone's Lonestar analyzer can detect and measure levels of these two vicinal diketones (VDKs) in minutes, right on the brewery floor. Offering ppb detection, the instrument is ideal for early fermentation monitoring and finished product quality assurance.
